The French territory benefits from favorable soil and climate conditions, diverse crops, and varied landscapes (plains, mountains, etc.) conducive to ruminant farming, which has enabled its development. Livestock farming has become a key pillar of local identity and the vitality of rural areas. Maintaining livestock farms and associated jobs is crucial for the dynamism and development of rural areas.

This document highlights the importance of ruminant livestock farming for the vitality of rural areas. It shapes their visual identity, creates jobs, contributes to the local economy through agritourism, and helps preserve natural and rural spaces.

Animal products are essential to the identity and economic, cultural, and touristic development of rural territories. Beyond their role as food producers, farmers are active participants in local life, engaging in community activities and public services, thereby strengthening the social fabric of rural communities.

Furthermore, pastoralism continues in France thanks to innovations and territorial commitment guided by values of nature and heritage. Preserving this practice is essential due to its contribution to biodiversity, sustainable ecosystem management, and the maintenance of rural traditions.

Ruminant farming is also crucial for protection against avalanches, wildfires, and floods by maintaining mountain pastures and grasslands and preventing scrub encroachment. This underscores its ecological and social importance in preserving landscapes and ensuring the safety of local communities and tourists.
