The French Livestock Institute employs approximately 250 people, of whom about 200 are subject matter specialists, engineers and technicians posted either in one of the 12 regional offices or in Paris headquarters.

It is organized into 5 departments:

• genetics and phenotypes,
• livestock farming techniques & environment,
• livestock and products quality,
• economics,
• farmers profession and society,

based on cross-disciplinary approaches:

• information systems and data management,
• livestock systems knowledge,
• international affairs and cooperation,
• regional field programs.
